Milan to Parma: Part II

Happy Friday, friends.

GPS shouldn't be difficult, yet somehow my brain just can't figure it out. I frequently miss turns, or take turns too early, but sometimes the GPS just seems to have it out for me. A great example of this took place on the trip to between Milan and Parma. Granted, the GPS is specifically configured to avoid highways and toll roads, but sometimes it very obviously messes with me.

While cruising along, I looked at the GPS and noticed that it was recalculating the route, which seemed odd, because I didn't recall seeing any turns within the last minute or so. Since the route had been meticulously planned, I was determined to stick to it. Also, the newly calculated route added about four kilometers to my trip. Since I still have no idea how to properly convert kilometers to miles, I just assumed that those four kilometers were unnecessary and I should circle back to find the turn that I should have taken.

A few minutes later, I find myself looking at an arrow pointing forward on the GPS towards this:

Not this time GPS; you won't get me. I'll go those extra four kilometers, and not be eaten by the big bad wolf.

Shortly thereafter, while passing through one of the larger towns that I've seen on the rural roads of Europe, this sign comes up:

GPS tried to make me go through Penice. Not this time GPS; I'm going to go wildcard by making a left instead of a right, so that you have to recalculate.

So I end up going through Penice; you win this time GPS.

Between Penice and Parma, the roads were quite pleasant and offered some great views:

By the time I arrived in Parma, it was after 5:00 PM, which was roughly six hours of travel. The road was long, but a great opening to this adventure.

Have a great weekend, everyone. On day 2, we travel from Parma to La Spezia, which is just outside of the Cinque Terre national park. This time there's video.
